Trichogramma Wasps
Wasps found in the genus trichogramma are also called the stingless wasps. Trichogramma wasps are studied and used as biological control. Trichogramma wasps are apart of the Hymenopteran family of insects that are only 1 millimetre in length at the most. The study and use of trichogramma wasps is down to the fact that adult females lay their eggs in other eggs, most eggs belonging mainly to agricultural pest insects. The eggs hatch inside the host egg with the larvae consuming the embryo and contents of the egg. Trichogramma wasps are very easy to bread making them easy to study and use as biological controls on crops that are suffering from pest.

It takes an expert to identify between Trichogramma wasps as there are over 230 species with all being very similar. Trichogramma wasps are at the moment used to control around 28 species of pest insects, amongst them being the cotton bollworm, European corn borer and the codling moth.
