Small Wasps
Some small wasps can be mistaken as wasps as they may actually be flies that are disguised as wasps. These flies are called hoverfly's as they hover around plants. They look much like small wasps or bees but are in fact flies. They can be distinguished by the fact that flies have one set of wings were wasps and bees have two sets. These small wasp looking hoverflies are harmless to people and only mimic wasps for protection. These small wasp looking hoverflies are very beneficial as they eat many other pests that feed on crops causing millions of pounds worth of damage world wide. Fortunately these small wasp look-alikes can also be found world wide and the possibility for them to be used as biological control are being considered.
