Large Wasps
Large wasps are commonly known as hornets as they are very large wasps looking insects. However the terms wasp and hornet are generic names as each species has its own. A large hornet may grow as large as 30 millimetres where an ordinary wasp such as a yellow jacket will reach between 10 and 20 millimetres. Large hornets are also a slightly different colour when compared to a yellow jacket as a large hornet is more a brown colour with an orange pattern. The similarities between the two are the way in witch they live and behave as well as the things they feed on. The large hornet can be found in the UK, mainly in the south amongst dense woodlands.
The large hornet can be distinguished by the much deeper buzz they create when they fly. The large hornets have also been given a reputation for being very aggressive. They are in fact less aggressive than normal wasps such as the yellow jacket wasps.
