Ichneumonid Wasps
Ichneumonid wasps are a species that are highly diverse and can grow anywhere between 3 millimetres and 130 millimetres in length. Most Ichneumonid wasps are very slender along with female Ichneumonid wasps having a very long ovipositor for laying eggs. The female Ichneumonid wasp uses its long ovipositor for laying eggs on, near or inside the victim insects body. Once the egg hatches the larvae will then feed on the victim from the outside in or from the inside out, killing the host insect when the larvae is ready to pupate.Ichneumonid wasps look very scary with their very long ovipositor, however unlike many wasps it does not sting. The Ichneumonid wasps long ovipositor is used only for laying eggs with some species laying eggs in rotten wood.
