Digger Wasps
Digger wasps are apart of the genus Sphex family with over 130 digger wasps species known of and are cosmopolitan predators who sting their prey, paralyzing the insect. The digger wasp will either dig its own hole or use an existing one she may have found. The digger wasp will then find prey to sting and paralyze to put in its nest ready for when her eggs hatch. Once the eggs hatch and the larvae emerge, they will feed on the paralyzed insects. The Great Golden Digger is a well known wasps that can be found in North America. Young adult's spend the winter season in the nest and when they do emerge, their instincts tell them to build nest's and catch prey for the next generation. A single digger wasp may build as many as 6 nests at any time. Each of the 6 nests will have compartments for her eggs.
