Common spiders found in Michigan
The most significant spider that can be found in Michigan is the Black Widow spider. "The Brown Recluse is not indigenous to Michigan" (Kenneth J. Ester), however the Brown Recluse Spider has been spotted in Michigan and is most likely to be a result of being brought to Michigan rather than them living there indigenously. The Brown Recluse if found in Michigan will normally be found in warm buildings as the cool climate does not agree with them.

  • Severe dermonecrotic lesions
  • Sometimes severe systemic symptoms

The Black widow spider: can grow to be 38 millimetres long and have a diameter of 6.4 millimetres.
(Brown Recluse Spider: can be between 6 to 20 millimetres and also grow bigger in some cases.)

What is the average life span of the Michigan Spiders?
The Black Widow spider lives between 1 and 3 years. (Brown Recluse spider living on average for a year and a half with very few living over 2 years.)

Does the Michigan Spiders have good eyesight?
Both the Black Widow spider and Brown Recluse spider have very poor eyesight and rely on their keen sense of vibration.
